Atex Application Cables
The ATEX Application Cable is designed and manufactured for use within an intrinsically safe application area.
These cables are used when a cable marking for hazard type “I” is used. The “I” means that it is intrinsically specified. The initial designs of the cables are to make sure that the amount of thermal and electrical energy that are available, within the compound, are always low to prevent an ignition within the hazardous area.
A specific cable that is used in the industry within intrinsically safe application areas is the ÖLFLEX® EB which has been designed with a small diameter to allow space saving installation. This cable design has thin strands of bare copper wires insulated in a PVC insulator with a sky blue PVC outer sheath.
These styles of cables have been used with equipment in explosive atmospheres and irregular operating conditions.
